Terms of Service

The rules of the road for using General Science — written so a Grade 10 student (or their parent) can actually understand them, backed by the full legal text underneath.

Effective 8 Sept 2026 Governs the General Science Android app (com.levels.generalscience) and this website.
The short version
  • General Science is free to use and supported by ads — no subscription required.
  • Be respectful in discussions; don't cheat, spam, or misuse the AI tutor.
  • The AI tutor is a study aid — double-check anything important with your teacher or textbook.
  • The curriculum content and app design belong to us; what you post (reflections, forum posts) stays yours, but you let us display it in the app.
  • We can update these terms or the app over time — we'll flag changes that matter.

§ 01

Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using General Science ("the App," "we," "us"), you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you're under 18, you confirm you have a parent or guardian's permission to use the App. If you don't agree to these terms, please don't use the App.

§ 02

The Service

General Science is a free, ad-supported learning app for the CBC Grade 10 science curriculum, including curriculum browsing, lessons, quizzes, flashcards, mock exams, an AI tutor chat, progress and mastery tracking, and discussion forums. There is no paid subscription tier at this time; if that changes, we'll clearly disclose pricing before you're charged anything.

Educational aid, not a guarantee

General Science is a study companion aligned to the CBC curriculum, not an official examination body or a replacement for classroom instruction.

§ 03

Accounts & Eligibility

  • You need an account to save progress and use most features; a Guest mode is available with limited functionality.
  • You're responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for activity that happens under your account.
  • Provide accurate information when creating your account, and keep your email up to date so we can reach you about your account.
  • One account per person — don't create accounts to impersonate someone else or to evade a suspension.
§ 04

Acceptable Use

When using the App — especially discussion forums and the AI tutor — you agree not to:

  • Harass, bully, or post hateful, obscene, or discriminatory content toward other learners.
  • Cheat or attempt to circumvent quiz/mock-exam integrity (e.g. sharing answer keys, automating submissions).
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or overload the App's backend services.
  • Use the AI tutor to generate harmful, illegal, or academically dishonest content (e.g. asking it to write an assignment for you to submit as your own work).
  • Impersonate any person, organization, or the General Science team.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate this section.

§ 05

Your Content

"Your Content" means reflections, discussion posts, problem reports, and anything else you submit through the App. You keep ownership of it. By posting it, you grant General Science a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, display, and process it solely to operate and improve the App (for example, showing your discussion post to other learners, or reviewing a problem report you filed).

You're responsible for what you post, and you confirm you have the right to share it.

§ 06

AI Tutor Disclaimer

Read this one carefully

The AI Tutor is powered by a third-party AI model and generates responses automatically. It can be incomplete, out of date, or simply wrong — even when it sounds confident.

  • Treat AI tutor answers as a starting point for studying, not a verified authority.
  • Cross-check important facts against your lesson content, textbook, or teacher.
  • Don't submit AI-generated answers as your own original work where that would violate your school's academic integrity policy.
  • We are not liable for decisions made or grades affected based solely on AI tutor output.
§ 07

Intellectual Property

The App's design, branding, illustrations, curriculum structuring, and underlying software are owned by General Science or its licensors and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may use the App for your personal, non-commercial study only. You may not copy, redistribute, or create derivative works from the App's content or code without our written permission.

Underlying CBC curriculum topics themselves are public educational standards; our lessons, illustrations, quizzes, and explanations built around them are our original work.

§ 08

Advertising

The App is free because it's supported by advertising. By using the App, you agree to the display of ads as described in our Privacy Policy. We aim to keep ads reasonable and non-disruptive to the learning experience, but we don't control the specific creative content served by third-party ad networks at any given moment.

§ 09

Third-Party Services

The App relies on third-party infrastructure — including Supabase (authentication and backend), OpenAI (AI tutor responses), Google Play services (distribution and updates), and advertising networks. Your use of the App is also subject to those providers' own terms where applicable. We're not responsible for outages or changes on their end that are outside our control, though we'll work to minimize disruption.

§ 10

Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or entirely accurate. Educational content is provided as a study aid and should not be treated as the sole source for exam preparation.

§ 11

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, General Science and its developers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App — including academic outcomes, exam results, or data loss — beyond what applicable law requires. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

§ 12

Termination

You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time from Profile → Log Out and account deletion request (see Privacy Policy §09). We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, including repeated abusive conduct or attempts to compromise the App's integrity, with notice where reasonably possible.

§ 13

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms as the App evolves — for example, if we introduce a paid tier or new features. We'll update the "Effective" date above, and for material changes, we'll let you know in-app before they take effect. Continued use of the App after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.

§ 14

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Kenya, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you may have under the laws of the country in which you reside.
